Shalya Tantra – Ayurvedic Surgery

Shalya Tantra is the branch of Ayurveda that deals with surgical and para-surgical management of diseases. It is the Ayurvedic equivalent of modern surgery, covering both operative and non-operative interventions for conditions requiring removal, repair, or correction of tissues.

The department teaches classical surgical principles from Sushruta Samhita (considered the father of surgery), including Shastra (surgical instruments), Kshara Karma (cauterization), Agnikarma (thermal cauterization), Jalauka (leech therapy), and modern surgical correlations, asepsis, anesthesia principles, wound management, and post-operative care.
